Toruń, Poland

The object comprises a metal trash can with a hinged lid. The whole thing is painted with white acrylic paint. The container bears a hand-made black ink inscription: “The existing forms of people's artistic creation prompts us to proclaim the state of urgent need – Leon Romanow, Ryszard Wietecki, 27 November 1970”. For the first time it was presented by the artists under the, created for the occasion, name of LET Gallery at the symposium Work of Art Status – Today combined with an exhibition of Polish independent galleries in Katowice in November 1970. Artists, due to the impossibility of transporting the object, presented it in the form of photographs. [P. Lisowski]
