This letter was written to Matt Roy Thompson who acted as construction foreman, it is on letterhead from the A. M. Johnson Rayon Mills, Inc., a company Johnson founded in 1928. The ties noted were brought to the castle grounds to be firewood. Over 100,000 ties was stacked just west of the clock tower.
Water rights are critical in an extreme desert like Death Valley. Even though Albert Johnson had rights to a few hundred gallons per minute coming from springs east of Scotty's Castle, he was concerned about a spring a little west of the Castle that produces just a few gallons per minute.
