Typed Letter on WSPU headed notepaper addressed to Miss Townsend, Brockley dated February 9th 1909. The letter, signed by Christabel Pankhurst, notes 'We are delighted to hear from you that you are ready for active service on the 24th. We have added your name to our deputation list'. The letter was sent to Caroline Townsend, joint honorary Secretary of the Lewisham branch of the WSPU.
The letter refers to Caroline's participation in the Suffragette deputation to Prime Minister Asquith on 24th February 1909. Caroline was one of 110 Suffragettes arrested during scuffles that broke out between the police outside Parliament and sentenced to a month in Holloway prison.
