Letter from T.W. Wills to the out-going Acting Secretary of the Melbourne Cricket Club, dated 19th September 1877, applying for the position of Secretary of the M.C.C. The letter is written in blue ink on letter-writing paper, in a backwards-slanting cursive script. The main part of the letter is written on the recto, with a post script on the opposite side. The letter is dated, "19th. Sep. 1877 / Geelong"; is addressed: "W.H. Handfield Esq. / Acrting Hon Sec M.C.C."; and reads: "Dear Sir / Seeing by Advertisement / that applications are to be sent in / to you for the office of Secretary / to the MCC. I herewith apply for same. / I am well up in the duties / attached to the office and do not / fear work [underlined], and I trust that the / Committee will give my application / a favourable consideration, owing / to my many years devotion to / Colonial Cricket / I am Dear Sir / Yours [Truly ?], / Thomas. W. Wills".
