CO-2843 Llodio, Hilda. [Carta] 1939 Jan. 6, Rio de Janeiro, RJ [para] Candido Portinari; Maria Portinari, [s.l.]. 2 p. [inglês][datilografado] Mis queridos amigos : Thank you so much for your good wishes for the New Year. If I have not written you before this please believe that it is not that I have forgotten you, quite the contrary. I have thought of you both very very often. You have been so kind to me that I do not know how I am going to be able to show my appreciation. Before Christmas I had very hard work to do to get stock out and sell it to the shops which I am happy to say I succeeded in doing. Then immediately after Christmas I had a shipment of unfilled lipsticks that Madame had sent me and they had to be made up and I have been working day and night on them ever since. There is so much work to do for one person that I do not know where to begin first – and I am sure you will understand it. Whether I will have appreciation from New York is another matter. Then too I have been so handicapped because I cannot work in the office so that I have to do my work in my room and anywhere I can find a spot which makes it doubly hard. And I have not been able to get an apartment as one must make a contract and I do not know how long I shall be here. However, I have partially solved the problem as I found an apartment to sublet in your building (San Miguel) for four months and I expect to move there the17th of this month. Then I will take the stock in with me and do most of my work in my own apartment which will be so much better. It will be wonderful when you return for then we can visit one another often. The people you recommended me to have been most kind. I have been to Mrs. Nabuco’s home to tea twice and she is really a wonderful woman. What a soul! I am very fond of her for she is most unusual and I can understand why you are so fond of her. She is expecting her baby any day so I will visit her in the hospital. The friend from the fiscal came to the office and helped us straighten out the stamp difficulties and he also gave me the documents yesterday for the shipment of your paintings which I sent on to New York. I just received a cable from Madame Rubinstein (from New York) asking what had happened to them. I called on Mr. Bento twice but was unable to see him, however, he sent a despachante to see me about the permanent visa. This gentleman is a little expensive so I think I shall let the matter rest for a while until I know exactly what I shall do about remaining in Brazil. Just before the New Year I caught a very severe cold and had to stay in my room for a few days and do not really feel too well yet. It is difficult as the room is small and I have no one to take care of me. However, I believe I shall be more comfortable once I have a little apartment of my own. I hope that you both re having a good rest and that the New Year will be most prosperous for you. How is the darling little boy? And Olga? Do you plan to return soon? I hope so. If you want to write me it is best to send your letter in care of USABRA, S.A., Caixa Postal 2413, Rio de Janeiro, as I shall move soon. Again thanking you both for your help and kindness and hoping to hear from you soon, I am, Most sincerely, Hilda Llodio
