CO-1924 Wedemann & Godknecht; Godknecht, P. [Carta] 1942 June 10, New York, NY [para] Luiz Portinari, Rio de Janeiro, RJ. 2 p´. [inglês][datilografado] Dear Mr. Portinari: I was very glad to receive your letter of March 27th reading as follows: “I am sorry to be late with this answer but the reason is that I am in the country and your letter reached me here only today. I thought you had received the funds, since December, when they were made. I am sorry to know that you have not, but you may be sure you will receive the proceeds without further delay. Due to some accident on board the ship, the formalities were so many I had the paintings at home only at the beginning of February.” Something must have happened that prevented you from taking the necessary action because up to this writing we have not received the proceeds of our draft, which, as you may recollect, was drawn on you last September. (our money is now outstanding over nine months) We have just received a report from The National City Bank of New York advising that their Rio de Janeiro branch advised them under date of May 28th as follows: “Although drawees deposited the milreis equivalent of the value of this collection with us on 11.8.41 they have not given us any reasons for the delay in obtaining authorization of the Fiscalization Department of the Banco do Brasil to close exchange. “We have communicated with them, urging them to arrange this authorization and to close exchange with the minimum of delay, to enable us to take steps to remit the proceeds to you.” Unless you have been in touch with The National City Bank in Rio de Janeiro in the meantime, would appreciate your doing so in order that they may take the necessary action to liquidate the matter and send us the amount of the draft. Trusting we may hear from you favorably by return Airmail, we are. Yours very truly, Wedemann & Godknecht, Inc. P. Godknecht Vice President 2
