It was decided that the restoration team would allow for many possible lighting changes in a master system so that depending on the nature of the display the objects could be adequately lighted. There were debates as to whether the lighting should be period or modern. In the end the view prevailed that in a building which such ornate embellishment modern lighting would be inappropiate. The time period of the establishment of the Museum was researched carefully and created lighting designs, especially for the large staircase chandelier, that reflected the intricate cast iron work of the Museum. It was especially challenging to get the proportions right asthe building has unusually high ceilings and several samples were made before the final version was approved.
