This souvenir locket was acquired by Reginald Issell Robinson, 3rd Field Ambulance AIF, some time between 1916 and 1919. The photographs depict the main attractions in the Belgian town of Ypres prior to the devastation and destruction of the First World War. The Antony D'Ypres Photographic Studio, was managed by the brothers Maurice and Robert Antony. Robert Antony, was an official photographer with the Belgian army. Primarily circulated as postcards before the war, these images would become even more well known after the war when they were reproduced alongside images of the same sites showing the destructive power of modern artillery and warfare.
