When Lockwood ran again in 1888, she chose Alfred Henry Love of the Universal Peace Union to be her Vice-Presidential running mate. Love, who was a friend of Lockwood, was not consulted, and refused to serve, explaining that he was an anarchist and opposed to the political process. Lockwood then selected Charles Stuart Wells as his replacement. Some newspapers were unaware of the change, as was the case of the periodical illustrated here, and published pictures of the ticket as Lockwood-Love.
