Look 9 from Maki Oh Spring Summer 2020 at Lagos Fashion 2019. This collection inspired by ‘The Boondocks’, Cartoon Network’s wildly popular animated adult sitcom. After binge-watching the show a few months ago, Osakwe was drawn to the unabashed flashiness of Thugnificent and Gangstalicious, the two fashion-obsessed rappers who appear in the series. The collection features embellishments such as pearls as a modern alternative to old school bling to compliment the designer’s signature style. Maki Oh is a womenswear brand founded in 2010 that fuses traditional African techniques with detailed contemporary construction. The Maki Oh design ethos challenges prevailing notions of beauty and analyses cultural norms through a womanist lens.
