Zaragoza, Spain

A locally made, truncated pyramid weight with a hole at the top and an inscription made before the piece was fired. The writing is a message to a girl singing the praises of textile work as the perfect occupation for women.
Translation: the front expresses a desire that the weight and therefore the loom would weave lots of fabric to help the girl find a good husband. The message is clearly meant for the girl, but her name is not revealed. The back advises the girl that she must take a liking to loom weights which evidently will expound the good things they bring to those who use them. That is—Weave lots of fabric and find a good husband. Take an interest in loom weights! We bring good and happy things.
