Loop-pommel Long Knife of Han Dynasty Overall Picture I

Arts & Crafts Museum Hangzhou

Arts & Crafts Museum Hangzhou
Hangzhou, China

This knife with a still clear edge line is in a shape formed by the spine and the edge in parallel. It has been kept in a good condition, showing an amiable patina. The thick and strong loop-shaped pommel at one end serves as an integral part, next to which the remaining wood handle indicates a wide and thick original grip, which must have weathered many powerful chops or hacks. Designed to be held by one single hand, this knife is testimony to the strength, agility and bravery of the Han troops during that period of time.
