Fondazione Musei Senesi

Fondazione Musei Senesi
Siena, Italy

In this panel by the young Matteo di Giovanni, the Renaissance elegance of the pearly-faced Virgin is exalted by the azure sky laced with thin clouds. Once inserted in a complex baroque altar in the church of Percenna, in the nearby of Buonconvento, it is one of the freshest and most precious works of the Sienese painter, here studying particularly lightening details.
