This pluvial, in red crimson (the colour of fire and of the Holy Ghost) is part of a set composed of twenty six pieces destined mainly for the celebration of Pentecost. It was created by Girolamo Mariani, the second of the embroiderers who worked the most for the Lisbon court, producing decoration in a more contained relief, characterized through a robust acanthus foliage arranged "a candelabra" and frames obtained by the repetition of spiral motifs of semicircular shape, decorated on one or two sides with a small open flower. The spiral alternates or interlaces with the more diversified elements, in asymmetric lines, a repertoire which approximates Rococo.
