Matriya is a believed to be a Bodhisatva who is Buddha-in-waiting. It is believed that there have been many human Buddhas. Currently the Buddha we know is Shakyamuni Buddha, born in Lumbini, Nepal some 2500 years ago. It is believed that Maitriya will arrive on earth in future as a human Buddha(or in human form).
