The culture of putting medicine in inrō and hanging them at the waist, has died with the decline of kimono. Still, even today the production of fascinating inrō for collectors continues to be passed down. In Kyoto, the inrō artist Uemura Enshū produces inrō from designs of works by the painter Morita Rie. While carrying on the tradition, new works with an element of exoticism are born.
