In Haiti one out of fifty women dies in childbirth.
The “Mamma Mia” project at Saint Damien pediatric Hospital assists children and women with pathological pregnancies, and trains Haitian doctors and Hospital staff. St Damien Hospital of Francesca Rava Foundation – NPH Italia is a structure of excellence, the only pediatric hospital on the island, assists more than 80.000 children a year. 6.000 pregnant women are visited at St Damien hospital each year, 2.500 give birth safely, 600 children are assisted at the intensive care unit of Neonatology. Staff at the maternity wing is formed in Haiti, thanks to volunteering Italian doctors, or in Italy, thanks to internships.
