Man's Festive Coat, Ainu, northern Japan.

The construction of this coat is basic to upper garments worn throughout eastern Asia. Two lengths of narrow fabric are brought over the shoulders, seamed at the back and sides, with separate pieces added at the shoulders for sleeves. The sleeve characteristic of Ainu coats is folded to achieve width at the body and tightness at the wrist for warmth.
