Minor Sea

In his painting, the sculptor Santiago Costa presents landscapes from his region and the outskirts of Madrid, or the sobriety of Aragon. In addition, as is the case in this painting, fishing life in northern Spain. Along the canal, we can see figures dedicated to the activities of those who live on the edge of the water. Santiago Costa i Vaqué (1895-1984) Cousin of Julio Antonio, he studied at the Llotja School in Barcelona and later collaborated with his cousin, from whom he received the classicist influence and realist treatment, in his initial period. Between 1919 and 1925 he produced a series of works in South America before returning to Madrid. His work starts from the block concept with significant integration into cubic space. His dominant characteristic is strength and detained movement. He also cultivated his painting of landscapes and popular scenes.
