Marcos Raya is interviewed by Claudia Morales Haro and María Isabel Ochoa. He expresses his belief that young artists must escape (both internally and physically) the Mexican ghetto in order to advance in their art. In this regard, he states how younger generations should not make their work only about their ethnic identity as this strategy could potentially alienate them from the rest of the city of Chicago. At the same time, speaking in 2005, Raya realizes that Chicago artists can no longer use the same aesthetic formulas as in the 1970s, yet he commits to remaining political in his work.
