Jean-Baptiste Roy-Audycirca 1834

Royal Ontario Museum

Royal Ontario Museum
Toronto, Canada

Marie-Zoé and Pierre were married at Notre-Dame de Montréal on November 18th, 1834. The style of her dress suggests a date of 1830 – 1835, leading to speculation that this pendant was perhaps commissioned in celebration of their engagement. The artist, Roy-Audy, settled in the Montreal area circa 1833 – 1834, often plying his portraiture skills to members of the lower middle class, such as the Persillier dits Lachapelles.
