The Mary chapel was built in 1932 close to the site of the apparition of 1876 and was financed by donations. The vertical panorama reflects the overall spatial impression of the sanctuary. The centre of the place of worship is a painting that depicts Mary and the baby Jesus in white costumes. This form of display is rare in Christian iconography. The special design of the Marpingen Madonna portrait is attributable to the description of the Mother of God who is said to have appeared before three young girls in a white dress during the apparition.
