Consists of a wooden handle with a cylindrical section, varying in thickness. The narrower central area is reinforced with wire. The head has two circular striking areas standing proud of the centre and an eye in the centre. Artisan silversmithing requires a series of different tasks. There is a specific tool for each one, including several types of hammer. Like other tools from the same silversmith, this piece was manufactured between 1925 and 1940 by Mendia and Murua (also from Donostia-San Sebastian).
The Satostegui silversmith workshop was founded around 1927 in San Sebastian (Gipuzkoa). Although it was an artisan outfit, at its height it employed thirty people in the different tasks involved in working the silver. The collection was acquired by the Provincial Government in 2000.
This is one of the 1,300 pieces in the Satostegui silversmith workshop collection held by the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa.
