Wooden mask, collected by D. Sebastião Pessanha. It consists of a type of mask used in the traditional winter festivals of the region of Trás-os-Montes, in the northeast of Portugal, also generally referred to as "Young men's Festivals", which until the mid-twentieth century constituted in these communities important rites of passage for male youngsters to adulthood.
