The ceramicist Adrien Dalpayrat collaborated with several sculptors during the 1890s to produce color enameled stoneware. He formed his first artistic partnership in 1892 with Alphonse Voisin-Delacroix, who designed this mask which Dalpayrat then cast and glazed using his recently developed method for producing colorful glazes. The two held a successful exhibition of their collaborative ceramics at the prestigious Georges Petit gallery in Paris in December 1892, indicating the increasing appreciation for ceramics as a fine art.
