Matau. Fish hook. Matau's shank is carved from a shaped piece of small branch. Matau has a light coloured rakau (wood) carved shaft with nio (hook point) of natural rakau lashed to matau with plant fibre (possibly kiriau - hibiscus fibre) wrapping. Twisted taura tautai (fishing line) possibly made of kiriau (hibiscus fibre).
