Mauretania was requisitioned for war service and was dazzle camouflaged in the later stages of the war.

In May 1915, she transported troops during the Gallipoli campaign. Mauretania was converted to a hospital ship and evacuated wounded soldiers from Gallipoli. She reverted to a troop ship, carrying Canadian forces to France.

After the war Mauretania repatriated American and Canadian troops until June 1919.
