Medal Medal

The "Schmerzensmadonna of Blieskastel" graced the front of this commemorative medal, which was used to advertise the reincorporation/annexation of the Saar region into the German Reich. As an analogy to the Saarlandic Madonna, the Bavarian Patron or "Patrona Bavariae" is portrayed on the back. Blieskastel belonged to the Bavarian part of the Saar region until the end of the First World War.
