Medas or Medes, as it was originally entitled in Catalan, is the most ambitious and successful of the sculptures executed by Marcel Martí until now. Consisting of ten elements, the subject is the Medas islands, which he could make out from near his studio in Corsá. Santos Torroella referred to this, highlighting the features that we see in the sculpture: “Marcel Martí has been living and working in Corsá for some years now, in the countryside around Bisbal. From here he can almost discern the Medas islands, whose presence can be altogether unforeseeable, phantasmal and magic.” Our judgement of this sculpture is confirmed by this writer when he describes it as “the work which for me has culminated the creative investigation made by this sculptor: this assembly exempt from reliefs, which constitutes a tribute to the Medas”.
