Members of the Church League for Women's Suffrage taking part in a Suffrage demonstration, Summer 1910. It is likely this image was taken by the photographer Christina Broom as the members prepared to take part in a procession and rally organised by the Women's Social and Political Union in support of the Conciliation Bill in June or July 1910. The banners carried by members are printed with the gold and white symbol of the organisation. The CLWS was founded in 1909  to 'band together, on a non-party basis, Suffragists of every shade of opinion who are Church people in order to secure for women the vote in Church and State, as it is or may be granted to men'. The League also campaigned for the revision of the marriage service in the Book of Common Prayer and, after World War I, led a drive for the ordination of women. By the end of 1913 the CLWS had 103 branches and 5,080 members.
