The Memory Room, displayed at a warehouse in 2001 takes its motif from a mother. An old family photo is put into a glass of water, and placed on a chair. The image of this black-and-white family photo gradually disappears with time. The photo is a vessel bearing time, and its image disappearing offers the conclusion of a vanishing incident. The moment a 'shot' is taken, its image remains still, and time no longer flows within its confines. As the photo in the water gradually disappears with time, it is as if it were alive. This work shows a collision between restoration and oblivion, occurring in our daily lives. The 'water' in this work represents 'water' as the source of life, and thus offers a 'distinction' at the same time. This property of 'water' reminds us of time. We humans gaze at time with one eye and view eternity with the other. This work leads the viewer to contemplate time, fear, anguish, hope, desire, and the immortality imbued in life.
