Milking machine

History San José

History San José

A milking machine functions the same as a nursing calf, using pulseation to imitate nursing. The teat cups are the only part of the machine to come in direct contact with the cow, and must be kept clean to reduce bacteria and the chance of infection. The milker would carry the full container by hand and pour the milk into a holding tank, where it was stored until the milk truck arrived to transport the milk from the dairy to the creamery. On display at the Portuguese Historical Museum at the Imperio, History Park.
