These miner's aprons were used to protect the seat of the trousers from wearing out while working and for personal protection against the cold and moisture while sitting. They were also referred to as "Bergleder" or "Fahrleder" among German-speaking miners. This usually triangular leather part of clothing that was fixed to the miner's belt by a strap is still manufactured for mining operations today.
