Miniature double-bitted axe manufactured from dark gray basalt. Shallow, pecked groove located on the edges of the axe, midway between the two bits. Both bits are slightly battered at the tip and show some polish extending up either face. Axe profile is relatively flat, both faces have lines of pecking located about an inch above either bit. This adze or double-bitted axe was recovered from a contiguous compound room located in a habitation area of the Pueblo Grande site. Pueblo Grande was a large village located at the headgates of a major canal system. Occupied as early as AD 500, the site reached its greatest extent during the Classic Period.
