The third Chikuunsai was known for his allow shaft bamboo sculptures. “Bamboo is most dutiful when straight” he used to say as a habit, and the arrow shaft work he made was always straight. This late work of his is composed of lines and circles with a hope to pass on his joy at having a new borne grandson to the future.
