Masami Kodama often borrows his subject matter from the world of geometry, and Mobius is no exception. In this work, Kodama explores the geometric configuration of a Mobius strip while also demonstrating his adeptness in expressing playful contradictions. Kodama combines his skills in assemblage, stone cutting and carving to produce three-dimensional forms that are both profound and subtle.

Born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1933, Masami Kodama studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and at Kyoto University of the Fine Arts (BFA, MFA). He has taught at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and at Kyoto University of the Fine Arts.
