Model of a ship

Model of a French ship with three bridges and 118 cannons. This hulk or prison ship model was made from refuse such as animal bones, fishbones and pieces of wood, etc. Human hair was used to make the ropes – either plainly tied or plaited to give them greater thickness and length. This model is made out of tortoiseshell and ivory. Its figurehead is particularly notable, as it features a soldier with a red helmet. The model rests on a stand made out of ivory and ebony.
