Manufacturing of silver objects involves metal casters, engravers, repousse and filigree workers. Popular centres for silverware in the 19th century were Kutch, Rajasthan, Delhi, Pune, Chennai and Kashmir. Seen here is a silver engraver from Kutch wearing a Kutchhi turban and earrings, working on a silver pot with a chisel. Due to the malleability of silver, the pots were filled with clay and designs were engraved using the chasing and repousse techniques.
