Model of the 34-Gun Frigate "Santa Casilda"

This model was built in around 1990. It is a 34-gun frigate that follows the "Guidelines for the Wood Required to Manufacture the King's Vessels," written by José Joaquín Romero y Fernández de Landa and published in 1783. It included plans for various 2- and 3-deck ships of the line, and for the frigates that took part in the great naval battles of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Romero Landa is considered the last naval engineer to have introduced significant changes to frigates. His publication led to the building of 34-gun frigates, starting with the "Santa Casilda" and the "Santa Brígida." The "Santa Casilda" was built in Cartagena, and was armed with 26 12-pound guns and 8 6-pound guns.

A copy of the original plan from 1807 was used to build the model of the frigate "Mercedes" in the model ship workshop at the Naval Museum in Madrid.
