Crafted by the arts and crafts master Fu Yueqiao of Zhejiang province in the 1980s, this umbrella won the Bronze Award at the 43th China Arts, Crafts and Tourism Products Exposition. Its canopy was embroidered by making reoccurring geometric patterns with white yarns based on the traditional floral motifs. More than a dozen types of stitches were applied to this item. As for the frame of the umbrella, it has ten metal ribs and stretchers, a wood handle and a wood stick. By presenting the features of dense stitches coexisting harmoniously with loose ones, characteristic of the Venice lace, this item is truly a delight to watch while serving as a practical tool.
