Morning in the Pasture (Summer Morning)

Edward Charles Volkert was born to German immigrant parents in Cincinnati, OH in 1871.

Volkert’s early career was spent mostly as a portrait artist working in watercolors. Following a painful divorce, he transitioned to landscape painting, often capturing rural scenes with grazing cattle.

By the end of his life, Volkert was known as “America’s cattle painter,” for his numerous depictions of cows and bulls.
