Moroccan Tiara

Gold tiara decorated with colored stones from the Atlas Mountains. The front center section of the tiara is decorated with a small crown design flanked by two birds. Butterflied and hand designs ornament each end of the tiara. The two side sections pivot on hinges and sport gold rings on the bottom, presumably to attach a band of some sort to hold the tiara to the head. Presented to Eleanor Roosevelt on January 22, 1943, by the Sultan of Morocco, Sidi Mohammed, through FDR. The tiara is part of the family jewels of the Sultan of Morocco.
