  • Description: In the early 1870s, close to the end of his life, Adolphe-Félix Cals became associated with a group of artists who came to be known as the Impressionists. He participated in their first four exhibitions, showing Mother Boudoux at Her Window in the third show in 1877. The aging artist received praise for the work he submitted that year—several reviewers commented on how pleasing the ten works in the show were to look at and how “rich” the artist’s technique was in rendering everything from village streets to portraits like that of the elderly Mme Boudoux.
