This is one of the outstanding early terracotta figurines of mother goddess made in grey ware and seated on a round wicker-stool with legs hanging down. She is shown with a child held on her lap. The face is moulded but all other parts and ornaments are hand modelled and appliqué. Her head-dress is decorated with a series of floral discs in the Maurya-Sunga style. She wears heavy coiled earrings and her skirt is decorated with punch circlets. The figure is bold, self-assured and earth bound. This image is supposed to have been worship-ped as a deity who bestows on her worshippers all kinds of prosperity.
