On the beach of Pimentel, Peru, early in the morning, people can still witness the activity of fishermen using reed boats assembled with a special Muchik technique which has been alive for more than 3000 years. The boats are called "Caballitos de Totora". About 300 families generate this economy based on artisan fishery made with hooks while surfing on the waeves near the coast. Depicted on pottery and visual representations since ancient times, this tradition expresses a balanced hunting relationship with the Ocean. Todays surfers reconnect with the past using the same visual tatoos of the ancient iconography depcited by coast precolonial cultures while practicing an interantional sport.
