Linen and cardboard bandages. Ancient Egyptians also mummified animals, as well as humans. The most popular were the cats, and their mummies were offered to the cat goddess Bastet. The belief in divine intervention mediated by a mummified animal, such as this cat, led to the emergence of a true animal mummification industry, with breeding sites and slaughterhouses that provided the bodies for mummification.
