Artist Chung Soon-Long’s photographs take a particular interest in the serendipities in life, providing viewers a whole new way of seeing.
The photo depicts the familiar scene of “mosquito catching”. With its barely audible buzzes, the blood-sucking insect is a reminder of the moments when we hear but do not see, or when we see with blind eyes. It represents a constant struggle between presence and absence.
Fragments of time form a trail of life. Presence is for the here and now. Murmur is the artist’s attempt to capture a moment in time and space that is insignificant and transient.
While all things have a place on earth, the human eyes ignore most. As a subjective observer, Chung Soon-Long’s work sends a message: “‘It’s there because I care.’ There are moments in life when I feel the warmth of beings.” And photography is the medium for capturing those moments.
