Máscara de Piedra verde

In the archaeological excavations in Templo Mayor and Historical Center of Mexico City, have been discovered some masks from Teotihuacan, which were taken by the Mexicas themselves in the mythical City of the Gods and who offered them in sacred places of their kingdom of ancient value. This piece was found during an excavation in Cerro de la Estrella (Huixachtécatl), a hill located east of Mexico City where the Aztecs celebrated the New Fire ceremony which gave way to a new era every 52 years. The piece, made of green stone, preserves remains of pre-Hispanic glue used by the Mexicas when they modified some of the relics found by encrusting parts of shell, obsidian and turquoise mosaic.
