Elmet mask

Elmet mask, in polychrome wood, used by the character of the "seducer" in the Géledé, a festival held annually by the Yoruba (Nigeria) in the dry season, between March and May, in celebration of the primordial mother, Iyà Nlà, and the community" female ancestors.

Géledé was registered by UNESCO in 2008, in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, after its proclamation in 2001 as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
