With the depletion of fossil fuel resources, renewable energies are becoming an increasingly attractive alternative. Wind energy, directly accessible, clean and inexhaustible, is now being fully developed. Its pioneers and largest producers in Europe are Germany and Denmark. Due to its inherently intermittent nature, wind will remain a supplementary energy source until less costly storage and coupling solutions are developed. This wind turbine is an aerogenerator: it transforms wind energy into electricity. It consists of the mast, a three-blade rotor and a pivoting body housing the generator and the turbine’s other components. This was the first wind turbine to be manufactured with a generating power of one megawatt. The model number indicates the rotor’s diameter and the turbine’s nominal power.
